Helena P. Stephens

"It's a girl" was the proclamation on June 10,1949, to the proud parents Mr. Albert "Livingston" and Mrs. Florence Pinder of Miami, Florida. They proudly named this bundle of joy Helena Arnette Pinder. Helena was the oldest of three girls born to Mr and Mrs. Pinder. Helena was formally educated in the Miami-Dade Public School system. She attended and graduated from Miami Carol City High School in 1967. It was here that she would meet her future husband Robert Stephens III. Helena was a gifted orator. She pursued further education at Miami Dade College. Robert and Helena were later married.Their union was blessed with two sons Derrick and Daniel Stephens. They had a daughter who gained her angel wings early by preceding both her parents in death shortly after she was born. Helena worked at BellSouth (formerly known as Southern Bell). She was able to make many advancements during her time there and successfully retired after many years of service. As a young woman Helena Stephens confessed Jesus as her personal Lord and Saviour. The Stephens family attended Koinonia Worship Center for over 40 years. They would become an integral part of the church's growth. She served as the director and coordinator for Vacation Bible School. In addition to that, as long as she was physically able, Sister Stephens faithfully served as a part of the Reaves House Ministry which is a women's ministry that serves women with various issues. This ministry remained near and dear to her heart. Helena took her duties for the Lord seriously and enjoyed her time as a Deaconess at Koinonia Worship Center. It was her goal to always be a servant and support to others. In addition to church activities she had various interests and hobbies. In her younger days Helena was an excellent dancer. She enjoyed traveling, sewing and made some of the best baked goods on this side of heaven. God blessed Helena with an eye for fashion. She was always a trendy dresser and consistently had her nails phenomenally manicured and her hair styled beautifully for all occasions. Helena was preceded in death by her husband Robert Stephens III. She leaves to carry on her love, her two sons Derrick and Daniel Stephens. Also left to cherish her memory is her granddaughter Jasmine Sturgis and great granddaughter Naeryiah Williams. Helena was preceded in death by her father, Albert "Livingston" Pinder, her infant grandson, her mother Florence Ferguson and her younger sisters Patricia Spivey and Ada P Richard. She will be lovingly remembered for a lifetime by her sister Dorothea Taylor (Coleman) and her brother in love Nathaniel Stephens. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, classmates and sorrowing friends.
