Graylin Gadson

Graylin Gadson was born July 19, 1961, on St. Helena Island, South Carolina, the son of Julius Chaplin and Emily Gadson. Graylin received his formal education from the Public Schools of Beaufort County. He was a local track star and won many awards at Beaufort High School. He also received a scholarship for his track and field skills. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Saint Augustine College, Raleigh, NC. After graduating college, Graylin moved to Miami, Florida where he was briefly employed by the Miami-Dade County School Board as a Physical Education Teacher. He was later hired and remained employed with the Continental Group (The Moors Community) for 35 years as the Recreational Manager. At an early age, Graylin received Christ as his personal Savior. He was baptized and became a faithful member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church. Graylin was affectionately called "Rabbit". He was a devoted father who loved his children unconditionally and he beamed with pride because of them. He was a hardworking man. He was also a dedicated employee, who took pride in his work, and he worked faithfully even when his health was declining. Graylin had a gentle spirit; he loved to smile and loved to make others smile. He enjoyed his family, friends, good times, and a hearty meal affectionately earning him the nickname "Grub". He also enjoyed playing basketball, watching sports, playing card games, and listening to old-school music. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his family and many friends. Graylin was preceded in death by his father, Julius Chaplin; mother, Emily Gadson; grandmothers: Eliza Mary Gadson and Henrietta Chaplin; grandfather: Isaac Chaplin; brothers: Julius and Rodney Chaplin; uncles: Abraham and Joseph Gadson; and aunt: Lillian Holmes. On Sunday, June 18, 2023, at 8:53 P.M. God saw the road was getting rough and the mountain was too steep to climb. Graylin must have heard the voice of Jesus say "Come." Graylin obeyed the voice of his Savior Jesus Christ, and is now free from sickness, suffering and pain. He is resting in the arms of Jesus Christ. Graylin leaves to cherish heartfelt memories, four loving children; one beautiful daughter: Zeykia Gardner of St. Helena Island, SC; three handsome sons: Graylin Gadson, Jr. of Miami, FL, Justin and Jayden Gadson of Miramar, FL. He lovingly served as a father and grandfather figure to Christine Aristide, Deidra Rogers, Celeste Taylor and Mackenzie Grimsley of Miami, FL. He is also cherished by his life partner of the past 15 years, Nadine Rogers of Miami, FL., his former partner Veronica Gardner of Saint Helena Island, SC.; former spouses Prisca Hanna and Pamela Gadson of Miami, FL.; who will miss him dearly. Five sisters: Jannie M. Gadson of St. Helena Island, SC; Margaret Patterson (Mike) of Summerville, SC; Ella Davis of Columbia, SC; Gail Chaplin (Robert) and Sharona Taylor (Raymond) both of St. Helena Island, SC; two brothers: Darrell and Antione Chaplin both of St. Helena Island, SC; two uncles: Minister Jonas Gadson of Beaufort, SC and Joe Louis Gadson of Ridgeland, SC; two aunts: Alethia Gadson of St. Helena Island, SC and Sarah Ethel Gadson of Lebanon, PA; one aunt-in-law: Minnie Pearl Gadson of St. Helena Island, SC; and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.
