Demetrius McKinney

Jeremiah 29:11 Demetrius Antoine McKinney Sr. was born on November 29, 1976 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. at Broward General Hospital to Rosalind Curry and Israel McKinney. God called Demetrius home from labor to rest on Monday January 2, 2023. At an early age he joined and was dedicated as a member at Greater Mount Zion AME church in Dania Beach, FL. Demetrius was an active member in various activities as a child such as the Young people department (YPD), choir, Boy Scouts, and Sunday school. Demetrius was educated in the Broward County school system throughout his grade years. Demetrius had a passion for sports in which he played basketball, baseball, football and ran track. His favorite football team was the Miami Dolphins, in which he called "sorry" every chance he got but kept so much hope that they would persevere. He was also a dedicated Los Angeles Lakers basketball fan, although his go to pair of shoes was a pair of Jordans. He had a heart of gold, a smile that could light up a room, impeccable swag, and a laugh that many would find contagious. Demetrius was well known in the community for his passion of the Seniors, family and friends. Many would say that he was willing to give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He constantly donated to a variety of organizations and individuals throughout his community. Demetrius was a protector and always wanted to ensure that his family was well taken care of. Especially when it came to his mother. Along with his many attributes to the world, his greatest joy was his three children Demetra (Doo), Demetrius Jr. (Man), and Destiny (Noonie) McKinney along with his granddaughter Aubri Williams. Demetrius loved to eat at the finest restaurants and would often say, "I want some good food." He was loved by many whether they knew him as Demetrius, Meat (Meathead), or Left. Demetrius was a loving father, son, brother, grandfather, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. He leaves to cherish his precious memories a proud and loving mother, Rosalind Curry, father, Israel McKinney; three precious and loving children Demetra McKinney, Demetrius McKinney Jr. (Erica Douglas), and Destiny McKinney (Reeshemah Black). His dear bundle of joy granddaughter Aubri Williams. His maternal siblings: Octavia (Rodney) Hardnett; Fayetteville, GA, Jermaine (Tiffany) McKinney; Palm Coast, FL, Jamillal (Bruce) Hines; Plano, TX. His paternal siblings: Wanda Thompson, Katrina Kinder, Kenya "Nikki" McKinney, Shawna Kirkland, Delvin "Poochie" McKinney, Courtney McKinney, Makil McNeil, Charles Freeman. God-mother: Carol Curry, God-sisters: Kilene Williams and Stephanie Barrington and God-brother: Gary Barrington. God-children: Tramaine Jr. and Lauren Parlor. His fiancé: Kimberlena Cabbagestalk. Along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, beloved cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by paternal siblings: Sonja "Shug" Strachan, Charles "Dee" James, Adrian James, and Tonya McKinney. "His Lord said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.'"
