Alma Walkins

"Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints. O LORD, truly I am thy servant; . . . Thou hast loosed my bonds. " Psalm 116:15-16 ALMA HEPBURN WALKINS was born on April 23, 1936, in Stevenson, Cat Island, Bahamas, to the late Leon and Roxana Poitier Hepburn. She grew up in Bluff, Cat Island, where she attended Bluff All Age School. Alma accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at an early age. She later moved to Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas, to further her employment opportunities. In March of 1962, Alma married the late Calfred Joseph Walkins, in Nassau, Bahamas. The couple migrated to the United States in 1963, initially living in Hallandale Beach, Florida. They later moved to West Park, Florida. Upon moving to South Florida, she became a member of Hallandale Church of God, where she worshipped until her demise. Over the years, Alma served in various capacities and ministries at her local church, including: Church Usher, Sunday School Teacher, Prayer Band Leader, Lay Minister, Women's Discipleship, and Church Mother. In her vocational capacity, Alma worked for over forty years as a Certified Nurses' Assistant at Memorial Regional Hospital. Upon retirement, she assisted in the rearing of her granddaughter, Jasmine Holly. Her favorite pastimes included sewing, knitting and crocheting, fishing, gardening, and baking. Having fought a valiant fight, and leaving behind all aches, pain and illness, Alma transitioned to her heavenly home, on July 23, 2023, at her residence in Pembroke Pines, Florida. In addition to her parents and her husband, predeceasing her in death were: her brothers, Steven A., Arthur, Eardley, and Cleaophas Hepburn; and her sister, Melrose Coakley. Left to cherish her precious memories are: her loving daughters, Margaret and Arimentha (Dr. Rolf Wichmann); precious granddaughter, Jasmine; sister, Rosheva Hepburn of Nassau, Bahamas; six sisters-in-law: Corlis Blunt-Hepburn of Atlanta, Georgia; Nina Phillips, Alice Rolle (Hartman), Rosita Lightbourne and Enith Davis of The Bahamas; and Gentle Walkins of Bonita Springs, Florida; four brothers-in-law: Lincoln, Harrison and Dwight Walkins of The Bahamas, and Dion Walkins of Naples, Florida; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, godchildren and adopted children; Angella Hines, Caregiver & Family Friend; Gertha Beaubrun, Caregiver; her Hallandale Church of God Family; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly. Please leave the family a note of condolence, light a candle of remembrance, or order a floral remembrance piece. Be comforted by these words: Joshua 1:9 "Do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
