Eugene Williams McDonald passed on October 2, 2022 The viewing will be held on Saturday October 8, 2022 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at The Fountain Church 4601 N.W. 167 Street Miami Gardens, Florida 33055. The Funeral Service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. at The Fountain Church 4601 N.W. 167 Street Miami Gardens, Florida 33055.

Eugene William McDonald was born to Evelyn and Willie McDonald on September 25, 1955 in Deerfield, Florida. He spent his formative years in Deerfield in a large household. The kids would walk down an old country road to attend First Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Gene would later excel in academics and develop a love of history, books and sports. He would become a sports writer for the high school newspaper.

Eugene graduated from Deerfield Beach High School in 1973. He then traveled north to Indiana where he graduated from the University of Evansville in 1978 and met the love of his life, Vanessa McDonald. The two were wed on September 2, 1978 and then moved to Miami, Florida. Eugene enjoyed lengthy employment with Miami Dade College from 1979 until his retirement. Eugene and Vanessa were blessed with two sons, Jarrett and Phillip and later blessed with a granddaughter Devin.

Eugene was well known for his love of books, as he was always seen with a larger than life book in hand. He also had an equally great passion for history whether it be reading about history or visiting historic landmarks especially 19th century American history. He found great enjoyment watching both of his sons play football.

Eugene McDonald’s earthly journey came to a close on October 2, 2022. He is survived by his wife Vanessa; two sons Jarrett and Phillip (Dana); granddaughter Devin; sister Gwen McDonald, Gary Dean, Beverly Cunningham/Kennedy, Dwayne Dean and Sharon Copland, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Willie McDonald; and by Eva Killins, Barbara Edwards and Larry Dean.
